The Outlet Community Hub Initiative started years ago in conversations around the community about the importance of getting needed and wanted services close to home. The Outlet area is RDCK Area E east - Coffee Creek to Kokanee Creek.
It is believed that there are some significant barriers to getting to and from services, usually offered out of Nelson. As a result, hardship occurs, either from not getting the services, or from the cost, effort and time to get to the services, sometimes when people are least able to afford it.
The idea of a “hub” has grown in these conversations. With a hub, services could be offered locally to the Outlet community. Also, the hub could act to support and grow community in order to improve well-being for people living in the Outlet area.
Now, we need to hear from you! What could a community hub do to improve your and other’s well-being in the Outlet?
Please take this short survey (about 10 minutes), answer as many questions as you are comfortable answering. All answers are welcome. And share the survey link with friends in the Outlet District! Your input is very important to creating a dynamic and vibrant hub.
Thank you for your time and energy!

Run Jump Throw - Sundays 10am This fantastic program is having a great time out on the Redfish Fields! Drop-in and check it out with your little one. Building Physical Literacy with your child prepares them for an active lifestyle. Run Jump Throw Wheel (RJTW) is a national program developed by Athletics Canada that teaches fundamental movement skills and develops physical literacy. Using track and field inspired games, activities and skill challenges lead by instructors specifically trained to teach the fundamentals of running, jumping, throwing and wheeling (for children in wheelchairs). Physical activity programming for primary school aged children should develop agility, balance, coordination and speed (ABC’s) and, thereby, instil the capacity and desire for daily play and physical activity. Peak motor skill development occurs between the ages of 8 and 12 years. In general, by the time children reach the age of 6 years, their nervous system, in particular the neuromuscular connections and centres in the brain that control movement are already at about 90% of their adult form. |
